Court Dismisses Lawsuit by Fleeing Binance Executive Anjarwalla Against Nigerian Government
The lawsuit filed by Nadeem Anjarwalla, a Binance executive who fled, against the Nigerian government for the enforcement of his rights has been struck out by Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Justice Ekwo dismissed the case due to lack of diligent prosecution. He noted that during the previous hearing on March 28, Anjarwalla’s lawyer, Tonye Krukrubo (SAN), requested to withdraw from the case, and the request was approved. The matter was then scheduled for June 19, but no legal representative appeared for Anjarwalla.
Anjarwalla, along with his colleague Tigran Gambaryan, had filed separate lawsuits for human rights enforcement against the NSA and EFCC, seeking their release from detention. They argued that their detention and the confiscation of their international passports violated Section 35 (1) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution (As Amended).
They claimed these actions infringed on their fundamental right to personal liberty as guaranteed by the constitution.
Both Anjarwalla and Gambaryan, US citizens working for Binance, a cryptocurrency exchange platform, are facing charges related to money laundering with the EFCC and tax evasion with the Federal Inland Revenue Service.
