Amotekun Captures Serial Electric Cable Thief in Osun. The Osun Amotekun Corps has apprehended a repeat offender, Jimoh Sodiq, known for targeting transformer cables and electric aluminum wires across the Osogbo metropolis. Sodiq, hailing from Ikirun and residing in Sabo, Osogbo, was caught red-handed attempting to steal electric aluminum wire in the Sawmill Area of Ido-Osun, Egbedore Local Government Area. The arrest took place around 5:15 am when Amotekun Egbedore Command personnel, conducting routine patrols, intercepted Sodiq as he was using pliers to sever aluminum electric wires from three poles.
Confirming the arrest, Brig. Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, the Corps Commander, revealed that Sodiq confessed to specializing in stealing transformer cables and electric aluminum wires, which he would then sell in other towns.
Sodiq admitted to his involvement in similar crimes in the past and implicated four accomplices—Saheed, Musibau, Boyee, and Wasiu—who allegedly aided him in vandalizing electric poles and stealing aluminum wires across various areas including Osogbo, Ido-Osun, Cocoa Factory House Ede, Okinni, and Owode community.
Following the arrest, Sodiq has been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and prosecution.
