Lagos Introduces New Work Plan to Help People with Money Issues. Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has revealed plans to alleviate economic pressures on residents by implementing a new work schedule for civil servants. Starting soon, civil servants from levels 1 to 14 will only need to work from their offices for three days a week, while those on levels 15 to 17 will work four days a week. This move aims to strike a balance between maintaining government operations and reducing the burden on employees. Sanwo-Olu also assured that teachers in public schools will continue with their regular five-day work week, given the nature of academic activities. Additionally, his administration will provide extra transportation support for these educators.

Furthermore, the governor announced a 25 percent reduction in state-owned transport services and hinted at discussions with transport unions to lower fares. To address food security concerns, the government plans to partner with caterers and local food vendors to provide meals for 1,000 people daily in each local government area. Moreover, Sanwo-Olu announced the establishment of “Sunday markets” in 42 identified locations, offering discounted rates on food items to residents.

These measures are aimed at easing the economic strain on Lagosians following recent policy changes such as the removal of petrol subsidies and exchange rate unification.
