22-Year-Old Arrested for Buying Car with Fake Bank Alert in Ondo. The Ondo State Police Command has taken into custody a 22-year-old individual, Bakare Ayobami, on charges of orchestrating a car purchase amounting to N4.6 million through a fabricated bank alert. The incident, flagged as a cybercrime, unfolded on October 26, 2023, when Ayobami purportedly utilized deceptive means to secure a Toyota Corolla 2006 model from a car stand owned by Filani Oluwaseun and Ogbaguwa Oluwasola at Ikare Road, Owo. As disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, Ayobami executed this fraudulent transaction on October 20, 2023, at around 1800hrs. Following diligent intelligence gathering, police operatives affiliated with the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad managed to apprehend Ayobami Bakare and his alleged accomplice, Abdullahi Abubakar, aged 26, in Ekiti.
Remarkably, the stolen vehicle was recovered in Osogbo, Osun State, accompanied by the retrieval of another Toyota Camry 2014 model, estimated at N6.2 million, which is suspected to be pilfered. Further investigations led to the discovery of additional seized items, including an iPhone 12 PRO Max valued at N600,000.00 and an iPhone 14 PRO, all procured through counterfeit bank transfers.
Police spokesperson Odunlami-Omisanya affirmed that the suspect, Bakare Ayobami, has admitted to the charges and is expected to face legal repercussions once the ongoing investigation concludes.
