Glo Users to Be Barred from Calling MTN Lines, Says NCC and Explains. NCC Announces Impending Disconnection of Glo Subscribers from MTN Calls. Globacom users are set to lose the ability to call MTN lines due to unresolved interconnect charges, as disclosed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in a public notice. The NCC granted partial approval for disconnecting Globacom from MTN Nigeria Communications Plc, citing insufficient justification for non-payment of interconnect charges. After a 10-day notice period, Glo subscribers will only receive calls but won’t be able to make outgoing calls to MTN starting from January 18, 2024. This follows a historical occurrence in 2019 when MTN briefly disconnected Glo subscribers over a N4bn debt.
The current interconnect debt is estimated to be around N6bn, with efforts to obtain Glo’s response still ongoing.
