Fatal Gunfight at Ogun Hotel Leaves Two Robbers Dead, Inspector and Guards Injured (Watch Video)
A dramatic gun battle between police officers and armed robbers at a hotel in Ogun State resulted in the death of two robbers and injuries to a police inspector and two security guards.
The incident unfolded at Remo Majestic Hotel in Sagamu Local Government Area when armed robbers, disguised as guests, struck in the early hours of Friday, October 6, 2023.
The wounded police officer and guards are currently receiving medical treatment at Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital (OOUTH).
According to SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, the Sagamu Area command received a distress call around 1 a.m., reporting armed criminals operating at Remo Majestic Hotel in Sagamu.
“A distress call was received at about 0100hrs by Acpol Sagamu that armed hoodlums were operating at Remo Majestic Hotel in Sagamu. Based on the report, a combined team of policemen was mobilized to the scene,” she stated.
Upon sighting the police, the criminals opened fire, prompting the police to engage in a firefight. Two of the robbers were fatally wounded, while others managed to escape into nearby bushes with gunshot wounds.
The recovered items from the robbers included two locally made single-barrel guns, four unexpended cartridges, 13 expended cartridges, a large pair of scissors, 10 Android phones, one Java phone, and a white Toyota Venza car with registration number BWR 123DD Abuja.
Despite the injuries, the police inspector and two security guards are reported to be in stable condition after receiving treatment at OOUTH.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspected armed robbers had initially mingled with the hotel’s guests before launching their violent attack.
The Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun, has ordered an immediate manhunt for the two fleeing suspects who escaped with gunshot wounds.
