“Jamaal Bowman Triggers Fire Alarm During Democrats’ Attempt to Delay Vote on GOP Spending Bill – Full Video Available
On Saturday, Socialist Representative Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) created chaos in a House office building by pulling the fire alarm, disrupting Democrats’ efforts to postpone a bipartisan vote on a Republican spending bill.
This incident in the Cannon building was captured on video and witnessed by several individuals.
The GOP-controlled administration committee spokesperson stated that an investigation into the reasons for Bowman’s actions is ongoing, confirming the incident.
Bowman’s spokeswoman, Emma Simon, acknowledged that her boss made an error, saying, “Congressman Bowman didn’t realize he would trigger an alarm in the building as he rushed to take an urgent vote. The Congressman regrets any confusion.”
Bowman explained to journalists that he pulled the alarm handle because he thought it would open the door.
Staten Island Republican Representative Nicole Malliotakis’ office informed the Post that she intends to request Bowman’s expulsion from the chamber, stating, “New York Democrat Jamaal Bowman literally pulled a fire alarm to block and prevent our efforts to force a vote to keep the federal government open. Pathetic. A criminal investigation must take place,” said Upstate Republican Congressman Nick Langworthy.
Creating a false fire alarm is a misdemeanor in the District of Columbia, punishable by up to six months in jail.
“No one in this country is above the law,” Bowman himself tweeted a few months ago, targeting former President Trump and applauding various indictments.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy stated that he would have a “discussion” with Democratic leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries about Bowman’s situation. McCarthy also emphasized the need for consequences, stating, “But this must not go without punishment. It’s embarrassing.” He also announced his intention to seek an investigation by the House Ethics Committee.
“This is the United States Congress, not a New York high school. Pulling the fire alarm to disrupt procedures while we are trying to craft legislation to AVOID A SHUTDOWN is pathetic… even for Socialist Team members,” Malliotakis wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) criticized the far-left party for disrupting Saturday’s proceedings and called on the Justice Department to prosecute them for obstructing an official proceeding — the same charge used against the January 6 rioters.
“The Democrats will literally do anything to bring down OUR government because billions won’t flow to their favorite country: Ukraine,” the conservative firebrand wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
The Capitol Police confirmed to the Post that a fire alarm was pulled in the Cannon Building just after noon, leading to an evacuation before it was determined that there was no threat.
