A landlord named Michael stands accused of scalding his estranged wife’s 11-year-old daughter with boiling water. This incident occurred on September 23rd in Mowe, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. According to a tenant’s sister named Ejiro, who resides in the same house, Michael had a history of physically abusing both his estranged wife and her daughter, Princess.
Ejiro recounted an incident where she heard the landlord violently beating the girl and, upon investigation, found him using a whip. When questioned about his actions, he claimed he was disciplining her for refusing to attend school. Ejiro expressed concern for her sister’s safety and revealed that Michael had poured hot water on Princess over the weekend when she was instructed to boil water for them. Princess’ mother, Grace Ojile, confirmed that the landlord had frequently abused her daughter, causing severe burns from the recent hot water incident. Princess herself, speaking from her hospital bed, disclosed that Michael had poured boiling water on her on that fateful Saturday.
The landlord defended his actions by citing the girl’s refusal to attend school, but the police emphasized that his response was unacceptable. The Mowe Divisional Police Officer, Afeniforo Folake, detained the suspect and announced the transfer of the case to the state Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry.
