Cross River State Implements Dusk-to-Dawn Curfew Amidst Deadly Community Clashes (Watch)
Cross River State Takes Action in Response to Deadly Clashes in Four Communities
In response to violent clashes between the Ugaga, Igbekurekor, Benekaba, and Ijama communities within Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, the state government has implemented a curfew that restricts movement from dusk to dawn.
Governor Bassey Otu initiated this curfew as a measure to prevent further loss of life and property resulting from the ongoing conflicts between these four communities. The primary objective is to provide security agencies with the necessary authority to address the situation and restore peace.
Emmanuel Ogbeche, the spokesperson for Governor Otu, issued a statement explaining the rationale behind the curfew. He stated, “The curfew is deemed necessary due to the persistent land and boundary disputes, which have escalated into security threats and resulted in significant damage to both lives and property. I hereby announce a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Ugaga and Igbekurekor communities of Yala Local Government Area, as well as in Benekaba and Ujama. This curfew will empower security agencies to take decisive action in the affected areas and facilitate the return to normalcy.”
Furthermore, Governor Otu instructed the State Emergency Management Agency to promptly arrange relief materials for those affected by the crisis, providing support to the victims during this challenging time.
