Watch security guard was shot in the head while trying to break up a fight at a high school football game (Full Video)
During a high school football game in Utica, a security guard was shot in the back of the head while attempting to intervene in a brawl during the final quarter. The incident occurred in a parking lot outside Thomas R. Proctor High School around 4 p.m. A group of about twelve individuals was engaged in a fight on the sidewalk when at least two gunshots were fired, as captured in a video of the event. One of the two security guards who tried to break up the fight was struck by a bullet and fell to the ground. He was immediately taken to the hospital and remains in critical condition.
The violent group had been denied entry to the football game against Binghamton High School by another member of the school’s law enforcement staff just moments before the shooting. Despite the stadium having metal detectors, the guard had already turned the group away before any suspicion of a firearm arose. Utica Police Chief Mark Williams stated, “He suspected something was wrong with this group, and he refused to admit them to the stadium.” Authorities believe that a single unidentified gunman, who is still at large, was responsible for the escalating violence. The motive for the altercation has not yet been determined, but it may have gang-related connections.
This incident in Utica comes just a week after a student was killed and an adult woman was injured in a shooting during halftime of a football game at a Louisiana High School. An 18-year-old individual was arrested for pulling the trigger in that case, though the events leading up to the fatal incident have not been disclosed. Additionally, last month, a 16-year-old met a similar tragic fate when he was struck by bullets from the stands during an Oklahoma football game. Shocking video footage captured the moment when gunfire erupted, causing players and spectators to flee to safety.
