Boko Haram Militant and Spouse Voluntarily Surrender to Nigerian Troops in Borno
A Boko Haram militant, along with his wife, has voluntarily turned himself in to the troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade Garrison situated in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, made this announcement on Tuesday, August 22, 2023.
Amidst the ongoing aggressive combat operations against insurgents in the northeastern region, the Boko Haram fighter, accompanied by his wife, surrendered to the troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade Garrison. Among the items recovered from the surrendered militant were an AK 47 Rifle and 10 live rounds of 7.62 mm Special Ammunition, as detailed in the statement.
In a separate incident on August 21, 2023, troops of the 1 Brigade Garrison, operating under the 8 Division Area of Responsibility, carried out an ambush based on actionable intelligence. The target was a group of insurgents who were planning an attack on Bobo Village in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Engaging in a fierce battle against the insurgents, the troops successfully neutralized two of the criminals and also managed to recover two AK 47 Rifles and four motorcycles used by the insurgents.
The statement concluded by urging all law-abiding citizens to provide their support to the Nigerian Army’s operations, with the aim of enhancing security across the nation. This development is a significant step toward reducing the activities of Boko Haram and enhancing stability in the affected regions.
