In a recent incident, Thai Immigration Police arrested a 26-year-old Nigerian man, Anamere George, for allegedly overstaying his visa by four years. The arrest occurred in Phuket, Thailand, where authorities also seized a significant amount of cocaine from his residence.
The arrest took place on August 3, 2023, after a car chase that began when police received reports of a man driving a grey Mazda 2 erratically, causing collisions with other vehicles. The chase covered various locations across Phuket before the man was apprehended near the Loch Palm Golf Course.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that Anamere George had a criminal record for selling cocaine in different areas, including Cherng Talay, Kamala, and Patong. A subsequent search of his residence in Bang Jo, Srisoonthorn, led to the discovery of multiple small pouches of cocaine and several keys to other people’s residences.
Anamere George is facing charges of visa overstaying and illegal drug possession. He will undergo legal proceedings before being deported from Thailand. The crackdown on overstayers, supported by the tourist police, is an ongoing operation in the region.
