Girls who wear immodest clothing are flogged by a Delta youth organisation and fined.
In Ubeji community, located in the Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, a group of young individuals united under the Ubeji Youth and Employment Development Organisation has taken a firm stance against girls engaging in inappropriate dressing.
According to reports from Punch, members of this youth group have initiated actions to confront suspected offenders, subjecting them to caning or imposing fines as alternative punishments.
Since Monday, July 3, 2023, the enforcement of the campaign titled ‘War Against Indecent Dressing’ has created a sense of fear and unease among females in the community.
Certain victims have been compelled to pay fines as high as N10,000 or face 40 strokes of the cane.
Stanley Bomele, the Secretary of the youth group, confirmed the situation and stated that the campaign became necessary due to the provocative manner in which some ladies dressed within the community.
He expressed, “Many girls have taken fashion to extreme levels, almost bordering on nudity, which is offensive and reflects poorly on our community.”
Bomele attributed assaults and instances of sexual harassment in the area to the prevalence of indecent dressing among young ladies.
He issued a warning, declaring that the wearing of miniskirts, bummer shorts, or tight biker shorts would no longer be tolerated within the community.
